Lead Assistance Program
Is your home safe for your family? Homes built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint. When the paint peels and cracks, it makes lead dust. Children can be poisoned when they swallow or breathe in lead dust.

No amount of lead in the body is safe. Even low levels of lead have been linked to changes in intelligence and behavior, such as developmental delays, hyperactivity and attention deficits. In pregnant women, lead poisoning can cause premature birth, miscarriage or damage to the baby's brain, kidneys or nervous system.

Lead poisoning is preventable. MCOHA can make your home safe with the Lead Remediation and Abatement Program, which may include:

-
free lead testing
-
free remediation of lead-based paint hazards
-
free abatement (removal) of lead-based paint hazards (for homes with children or seniors)

Both home owners and tenants are eligible. If the tenant meets income eligibility requirements (low- or moderate-income), the lead in the landlord's dwelling will be treated at no cost.
